Advising Matters Conference

Virginia Tech's 14th Annual Academic Advising Conference

On behalf of Virginia Tech and Academic Advising Initiatives, we are excited to extend to you an invitation to attend Virginia Tech's 14th annual academic advising conference. Advising Matters will be held on Friday, March 1, 2024, at the Inn at Virginia Tech and Skelton Conference Center.

As professionals, we all need time to expand our knowledge and find solutions to problems that facilitate student success. Here is just that opportunity! The Advising Matters Conference is designed to be a means for sharing ideas, staying up to date on best practices and providing quality advising professional development opportunities for advisors at Virginia Tech, the state, and region. The theme for this year's conference is “Advising Matters: Developing a Sense of Belonging.” The evolving needs of our students demand that we provide holistic advising to aid students in feeling seen, supported, and included as members of the Virginia Tech community. The integration of academic advising and aspects of mentoring help to establish a partnership between advisor and students aiding in their belongingness.

The conference will be a one-day event including an opening session, concurrent sessions, and other activities with the goal of enhancing advising knowledge and skills for faculty and staff while also increasing effectiveness of our advising programs.

We look forward to an exciting 2024 Conference!

Sincerely,
Lauren Thomas
Director for Academic Advising Initiatives & Conference Chair
